Our Halhed family tree web site is designed to let visitors search virtually any desired aspect of our families' histories. First,
we've provided a group of introductory pages containing general information
(including this page), accessible from the gold and gray menu at the top of every page. These pages are not part of the actual genealogy data store which we'll call the
"genealogy pages."
The genealogy pages can be accessed from a number of links on each of the introductory pages, as well as from the "Search our family trees" drop-down menu.
On the right-hand side of each genealogy page, there are two basic search boxes (First
Name(s) and/or Last Name) just below the top gold and gray menu.
On the left-hand side of each genealogy page, in the white-colored area,
there is a small picture of a magnifying glass with the word Search beside it. This latter search opens the door
to an incredibly powerful search engine with the first dozen (most often used) items automatically displayed. For the entire search list, please click the small which will open a list of nearly 270 additional searchable items. The search is Boolean — this means that the items you include may be AND-ed, OR-ed
or NOT-ed together (and others). Explore the drop-downs beside each search term for even more options, depending on the type of data you want to find or investigate.
Name searches can also make use of Soundex or Metaphone searches to help find spelling variations.
On the right side of every genealogy page except the Basic
Search page, there is another drop-down menu, buff in color, located directly below our site's main gold and gray menu. The three menu heading items, from left to right, are: Find, Media and Info. The most useful of these is Find. The third item on the Find drop-down sub-menu list is Places.
This tool allows one to search for places, and then explore further by sub-groupings —
It's well worth experimenting with this tool, which is truly powerful!
Finally, our web site can produce many different reports, charts,
Gedcom files, PDFs and other information, all which are context sensitive. Please experiment and poke around,
and enjoy! If you have any questions, or if you need help, just drop us an e-mail — we'll be happy to
advise!
